Description

The Transgender Day of Remembrance Webcomics Project began in October 2004 as an event for the 6th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. Originally just an idea for a cross over comic between Venus Envy (by Erin Lindsey) and Closetspace (by Jenn Dolari), it quickly expanded to nine comics in its first year, and to fourteen in 2005. This site is a permanent gallery of those images, hopefully raising awareness that innocents are being killed, and that there are people out there who care.

Participating contributors draw and publish a relevant webcomic or image for the day (or equivalent date, depending on schedule) with links to other contributors and/or the archive. The main thing is to educate the readership of each person's webcomic or blog about the issues listed above.

You don't have to be transgendered to join, just appreciating the tragedy of the lives lost that are memorialized here is enough. What you do need is a suitable visual artwork that appears on a site (webcomic, blog, Deviant Art type site, Facebook, Live Journal et cetera) read by others. What matters is sharing your concerns in an artistic fashion, so that others can hear of the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The numbers and composition of the participants varies each year and it is understandable that a participant from a previous year may or may not be able to contribute for the current year (for any number of reasons). New contributors (and returning ones) are welcome. The main requirement is that your remembrance artwork be accessible by web for for the target period (that is, it shouldn't only be produced for the TDOR Webcomic archive).

The Archive however, does want your contributions! Contact ~LauraSeabrook or go to the submissions page for details.

I am finally doing one again, because I have a comic again, and this time one I actually think I can keep doing. My previous entry was back in 2006 (dang, six years ago--time flies) for the comic Comfortably Numb (not a great comic and a rushed entry, anyways). This time I have superheroes, which is really the genre I love, anyways.

My comic will be one of triumph, how we will still stand strong. It's just easier to do a triumphant one with superheroes than a solemn one. Plus, I've been drawing it and the first thing I did was one of my characters in a heroic pose--the drawing was too good to not put it up (because I don't know where else I'll be using it).

But thinking of the project, it makes me wonder: Erin has finally begun continuing Venus Envy this year, so I wonder if she'll be involved again. I always love her art.
